These two quilt tops were the same pattern, except for the middles. One was appliqued, the other was a pieced square. The bias setting of the blocks and the gorgeous batik fabrics make for some beautiful quilts. I loved these quilts!
This first quilt is for Pat's bed. They're both large queen sized.

Israeli Housewarming Gift

I love the colors of this quilt. Other than having a really slow time of knowing what to quilt, it was a joy to work on this top. Linda created this quilt for her brother & sister in law who have a new home in Israel. It was quilted with the hot sun, the swirling wind coming from the desert, and the promise of Israel's flowering in mind. The stylized pomegranate, rose vine and grape vine represent Jehovah's blessings to Israel.

Wedding Quilt

Lillian made this for her young friends who are being married next month. It's a generous sized lap quilt to throw over the couch, and use for a little snuggling.

Such a little quilt, and such big problems.
I just could not come up with a design for this quilt. The fabrics used are very 30ish, and I wanted a matching quilting pattern.
Didn't happen.
Not sure how this design began, but I'm pleased with its results.
The center motif is a Pomegranate, using IQ. The other designs are freehand.

Mary's Quilt

This is a great quilt! The colors are vivid, and so alive. Everyone who saw the top while I had it exclaimed what a fabulous quilt it is.
Mary has an eye for color, and she knows what to do with fabric. I used the Fruitopia pantograph for the quilting design, and think it adds to the funky aura of the top.

Another meticulously pieced quilt. I'm sorry the fabrics are grayed in the photographs;the top is a very soft, pretty quilt which reminds of southwest colors. Quilted in concentric circles, using the Gadget Girl Templates. Quilter's Dream 100% cotton batting.

Maritza's Medallion Quilt

This is such a beautiful quilt. The fabrics are wonderful, bits of gold in some of them, and really vibrant. Her piecing is very nice, also. It's just a beautiful top.
85"x85", Maritza pieced this for her bed.
I was worried about the backing, and it does show every little bobble! But it turned out quite nicely.
I've uploaded lots of photos. Can you tell I really like this quilt?

The piecing is simple, but the fabrics/colors make this top catch your eye. This is a FUN quilt. Freehand quilting in the body of the top, with piano keys and swirls in the borders. 64"x72" The backing fabric is a green plaid that matches the top fabrics.

Huntington Memorial Hospital Opportunity Quilt

Karen pieced this beautiful top. 70"x90" The piecing is perfect, and the redwork features musical instruments. Lots of ruler work in the body of the quilt, with swag templates/piano keys in the borders (which don't really show well!). Freehand quilting to frame the redwork, and in the two borders.
The quilt was commissioned by the Guild in Altadena to raise monies for the Huntington Hospital.

Little Girl Quilts

Ginger pieced two of these quilts for E & S. The colors are bright and fun, and perfect for little girls' beds. It's so fun to have a daughter who enjoys quilting.
The back can be flipped over for a little surprise.

Lila's Baskets

It took me forever to quilt this charming quilt. Not the quilting itself, but just developing the nerve to put it up on the frame. I really felt it should have been hand quilted. The baskets are 4" blocks; the handles all hand appliqued. Lots of piecing with little squares and triangles. And there are many more of these depression era, traditional quilt tops at its home. Lila is a very prolific piecer!
Unfortunately, these are the only photos I took of this top. I quilted a little daisy in the handle of each basket, and a vine with yellow daisies in the border.

This is another quilt by Joyce, perfectly pieced. I love working with quilts such as this. The photos don't do the fabrics justice . The colors/prints were really nicely chosen. Not a bright white, but creams & taupes. The reds more blue. The blues deeper and more interesting.
Sometimes I don't like my camera.*sigh*
I used the Circle Lord templates, with free hand quilting. A red/white/blue variegated thread seemed to appear and disappear throughout the quilting. 45"x60".

Large Border Treatment (Finished w/Pics)

Finally I'm finished!
Free hand quilting in the main star, and SID all about. The stars in the white area were quilted using the Circle Lord Starz template.
I used the Gadget Girls Shells and Swirls Ruler template to set up a line to divide the wide borders. More ruler work with the piano keys, and freehand feathers. The quilt was turned to finish the borders, with the feathers running around the four sides. The gold backing shows each and every bobble in the quilting, but has a nice graphic feel to it.
I'm sure the recipient will love this quilt.

The Ocean Quilt

Rita made this quilt for #2 Son to commemorate his going to BYU. #2 Son is an avid surfer, and the fabrics Rita used reflect that. The colors are beautiful; the photos don't really do them justice.

Angela's Quilt

Angela made a stash quilt using burgundy and white colored cottons.
The fabrics were simply pieced in a diagonal Railfence set. I tried out some different impromptu designs so the quilting would be a bit more unexpected.

Ryan's Quilt

This was a very well made TShirt quilt. Straight and square, with the Tshirt blocks backed. Ryan's mother handquilts beautifully, but decided this one should be machine quilted. When he saw the quilt, the first thing Ryan did was roll up in it and take a nap.
Because of the quilt's colors, we used Quilter's Dream black poly batt and Woodgrain pantograph. (Click the photo for a better view of the quilt.)

Graduation Quilt

This graduation quilt was made by Joyce, for her granddaughter, who will be soon be graduating high school. Joyce and I are related... her daughter-in-law, beautiful Natalie, is a niece, a few times removed. Or something. :)
The quilt was impeccably pieced using batik fabrics which are more mesmerizing than the colors show. The batting is Quilters Dream Wool.

Bev's Dresden Plate

This is Bev's small dresden plate. Beautifully hand appliqued with small, even stitches of black floss which sets off the 30's reproduction fabric nicely. The turquoise sashings lend a bit of zing to the quilt. Free hand quilted.

The Rooster Quilt

I *seriously* had a hard time giving this back to its owner.
The piecing was impeccable, and seeing that I have chickens, this charming quilt would have fit very well in my home.

Look closely and you may see the chickenwire border, a few bugs and eggs.

Autograph Quilt

Donna Lee pieced this gorgeous quilt for the outgoing Stake President and his wife. Many of the fabrics are from Donna's stash; a traditional autograph block was used. The quilt is large ~ 100"x110" Thank goodness no one made a mistake while signing their name!

This was a stretch for Mary... not in piecing, but in the fabrics. It's a very calm quilt, quite unlike the colorful, buoyant tops she usually creates. The plain fabric is a soft champagne color, the pieced blocks are an eclectic grouping of materials. Very pretty.
Of course, when you flip the quilt over ~ surprise!

This top was so fun to quilt! Used the Papillon pantograph. If you look closely, you can see a stylized butterfly in some of the blocks.

The backing fabric was beautiful; Passion flower vines twisting gracefully over the material.

Mary's quilts are all about the fabrics, not the quilting.
I SID around the stars to make them pop, quilting wavy ribbon-like designs from the stars, and quilted continuous curves in the triangles. Simple pattern, but very time consuming because of the ruler work.

These are two of the four quilts I have finished for a local school. They will be auctioned at a dinner for 800 at the Ritz Carlton hotel in March.

The children each colored a picture and signed a block. These were put together by two volunteer Mothers. The quilts are approximately 70"x80" in size.

The first quilt has the theme of Flower Power (hippies, peace and love!); the second is Sports.

This was made with colors that seemed saturated; a very striking table runner.

The inside was crosshatched, while the borders were quilted with a meandering leaf/flower vine.

Stitching along the ditch helped the prairie points lay flat.

I've had the privilege to quilt a few tops for members of the military who have been injured in the Iraqi war. I feel it an honor and hope the recipient knows the gratitude and prayers that go with the quilt.

EBay quilt top

This was a $30 top that I purchased from EBay. It was made in India and is a small queen size. I used Quilter's Dream cotton batting and a large muslin backing. I decided to start quilting and not stop until I was finished! Now I've got a great quilt that can be used for anything, with very little time or $$ invested.

Vintage quilt blocks

These blocks are probably 100 years old. The owner rescued them from an attic and eventually made thre quilts, using additional Civil War reproduction fabrics. The tops are beautifully made. The quilting patterns are of that era. The first top is quilted in a baptist fan pattern; the second in a clam shell pattern. The border is feathered with hearts because it was a Mother's Day Gift.

You Did What to That Fabric???

Quilters are generally perfectly normal women (sometimes men) who buy beautiful fabrics and then proceed to cut them into small pieces. Spouses do not always see the value in this.
These pieces of fabric are then meticulously sewn back together in a pattern to form a 'quilt top'. The owner of the quilt top then contacts me and together we decide what type of quilting pattern will be quilted or sewn, onto the top. I put the quilt sandwich, which consists of the quilt top, a soft batting middle and the quilt backing, onto the longarm frame. I then quilt the design which may be either subtle or sometimes not so subtle.
My particular longarm is 12' wide; many are 14' wide, but my little quilting room is small and will only accomodate the smaller size. My monster looks better with a quilt in her frame.
